The Great Benefits Of Being Grateful

Being grateful costs nothing and makes us look at life differently. The people around us notice this difference and react positively.

We’ve heard so many times how being grateful is very positive for ourselves, but we apparently still don’t understand what this means exactly. The dictionary defines gratitude as recognizing and appreciating a person who has done you a favor and “wanting to pay it back.”

But thankful is not only this. We can be thankful for being alive, for living the life we live and for all the good the world has to give us. Thinking about all this and feeling truly grateful can make us happy. But why is it so hard for us to be thankful?!

Being grateful is very easy

Being grateful is very easy. All you need is a smile, a simple “thank you” or a little message to the person to be thanked to make them feel how happy they make you or to show how grateful you are for what they do for you.

As you can see, it does not require much energy and gratitude does not cost us much effort. Maybe that’s why we let it pass us by. This often happens because we shut ourselves off from our environment.

We are so locked into our own world that we forget what is happening around us. How often do you think about all the positive things you have in your life and how often do you realize that you don’t need anything extra because you already have everything you need?

How often do you think about the people around you, the people who are always there for you when you are struggling? We are sure that you think more about the people around you who hurt you than about the people who were always there for you when you were struggling or to help you.

We believe that family and friends will always be there for us. But really, if we’re realistic, things could be completely different within 24 hours and by then it might already be too late to show how much we appreciated those we lost.

We need to practice being thankful

Because of all these problems , it is sometimes difficult to show gratitude if we don’t practice on it. However, we can learn it just as we can learn to be kind, to be sincere, to love, etc. So try to keep in mind the following steps. Practice makes perfect.

Focus on the ‘here and now’

Too often we live with our heads in the future and the . Because of this, we cannot enjoy the moments and forget to be grateful for these moments. We must learn to long again for the present, for what we already have right now. To be fully aware of the present, we must open our eyes and look around us.

Take nothing for granted

You assume that your partner knows that you love him/her and that your mother knows that you love her. Taking this for granted is a common mistake. The people who mean so much to us must be able to hear this from our mouths or experience it through the affection we show towards them.

Don’t expect anything from anyone else

You can’t expect someone else to do what you expect. In most cases this won’t be the case anyway, so stop thinking it could. Being grateful means that you don’t expect anything in return from the other person. This is a good goal for yourself, which will make you feel happy.

Be thankful every day

Try to show gratitude from the moment you wake up. And be grateful for all the things you have experienced during the day when you go to sleep. Sometimes we just need to be able to be thankful for being able to live  and not just for the people we have around us.

This can make us feel blissful. It puts a smile on our face every day when we get up and when we go to sleep. It costs nothing and it makes you much happier. Be thankful for all the opportunities you get through your effort and be thankful for the work you’ve accomplished through your perseverance.

Try to live in a way where you show gratitude for everything  and where you are especially grateful to the people around you. The more you try to be grateful, the easier it becomes. After a while it will even become a habit. Gratitude becomes part of you.
