8 Ways To Use Old Tires

Old tires are items with a lot of potential. It all depends on your ingenuity and your ability to imagine what you could make with it. 

Tires are made of a wear-resistant material (elastic polymer), better known as rubber. They may be completely worn out and unusable for a vehicle, but you can still use them for other things.

Rubber is a material that can be natural or synthetic. The natural rubber is extracted from rubber trees, or Hevea trees, which are native to South America. It can also be obtained from the latex of plants. Synthetic rubber is derived from petroleum.

Due to its elasticity and impermeability, it is a commonly used element in industry. After recognizing its versatility and durability, it has started to be recycled and used as a raw material for many other products.

Can it be reused for the house? Yes of course you can! It does have more than one use though. With the aim of reducing pollution by making them unusable on vehicles, there are hundreds of ideas for reusing old tires at home.

The best ideas for using old tires

In reality, there are many ways to recycle old tires. The most common is to grind it, cut it, or pull the pieces apart to make something like this:

1. Swings

Do you want to have something nice for your home without spending too much money? A nice idea is to make a swing for the kids from old tires.

Buy a rope in whatever color you like and paint the tires with spray paint. Then hang it from a tree with thick branches so that it hangs well and is safe. As an extra measure , we recommend that you line the inside of the old tires with a fabric so that the tires do not come into direct contact with your skin when you sit on them.

2. Sandbox

For children who are still too small for the swing, we have another idea for you to make in which they can play. How about a sandbox?

This sandbox is easy to make. All you have to do is wash, dry and paint the old tires in whatever color you want. Then fill them with sand and put them in the shade. This sandbox will undoubtedly become your child’s favorite place.

3. Planters

Because of their shapes and dimensions, old tires are excellent for decorating your garden. In addition, water does not damage them because they are very durable. They are therefore perfect for growing different types of plants.

Choose your favorite color of spray paint and paint your new planters. If you want, you can also just leave them in the original color and put your plants in it.

4. Frame in front of a mirror

An old tire from a car is not the best option for a nice mirror. However, the thin tires of a bicycle can easily be used for this interesting craft.

Just wash the tire and try doing it around the mirror. Then you can use a layer of clear varnish to make the black of the tire shine.

You can also spray it with a paint in, for example, gold, bronze or another color. Then you have to look for a mirror that fits in it, attach it and you’re done.

To fix it properly you can add several points of industrial glue to the inside of the tire.

5. Bed for your pet

There is no need to spend a lot of money on a nice bed for your pet. Old tires are perfectly shaped to make an inviting and beautiful bed. All you need to make it is a pillow that fills the tire inside. Then decorate it however you like.

6. Trash Can

Putting several old tires together can make a fun trash can. How it will look can of course vary depending on how creative you are.

The basic idea is to stack three old tires, one on top of the other, so that you get a deep bin. Then put a garbage bag on the inside to make it easier to remove the waste.

7. Outdoor Coffee Table

This decoration made with old tires is very stylish. There are certainly many people who reuse this material to make their garden or terrace more beautiful, with homemade furniture and tables.

Put one tire on top of the other and paint it as desired. Then add a tray (made of plastic, wood, or any other material of your choice) to complete your table.

8. Outdoor benches

To enjoy family reunions in your garden or outdoor space, you can make some comfy sofas with old recycled tires.

Join several bands together, depending on how many benches you want to make.  In general, you will need two for each bank. Paint them however you like and then fill them with pillows.
