5 Mistakes Not To Make While Taking A Shower

Many of us find that foamy products make us wash more cleanly in the shower. But in reality, the opposite is true and foam can cause very dry skin.
5 mistakes you shouldn't make while taking a shower

Many of us consider it normal to shower at least once a day. However, this habit causes us to constantly repeat a series of shower mistakes related to hygiene and self-care.

Be aware of common shower mistakes and avoid them as much as possible.

1. Choose an optimal temperature

The temperature of the shower should not exceed 35 degrees, as this is sufficient. We often shower too hot, but incredibly hot water is one of the many mistakes when taking a shower.

We should be aware that very high water temperatures can cause dehydration, dryness and flaking of the skin.

In addition, very hot water can remove excess oils from the skin. This will eventually make the skin indefensible against bacteria and harmful substances – exactly the kind of mistake you want to avoid while showering.

Also, too much hot water causes excessive blood flow. And this can result in redness, inflammation and acne.

2. Don’t take too long in the shower

While showering

It is also not a good idea to take a long shower. It’s like showering with very hot water: it dries out the skin.

Try not to shower for more than ten minutes. Otherwise, by showering too long, you can cause the appearance of pimples and irritated skin.

3. Foaming products in the shower aren’t as good as you think

Some soaps are very foamy because they contain surfactants. Their function is to bind molecules of fat to water molecules.

If you see that your shower gel is too foamy, it’s because it contains too much of this type of substance.

  • Keep in mind that the more lather a soap or gel produces, the more oil will be removed from the skin. This causes dry, rough skin.
  • It is also not recommended to use an antibacterial soap unless specifically recommended by your doctor.
  • Always try to buy soap with a pH of 5.5, which is stated on the label. This is an alkaline level that is safe for the skin.

4. Do not use old sponges

Old sponges may be softer, but they are not the most recommended item to use for bathing. Even if you don’t think so, using the same sponge for a long time can be harmful to your health.

You should be aware that sponges are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.

Therefore, do not use the same sponge for more than 4 weeks in a row.

Experts recommend using a washcloth instead of a sponge, or a mesh scrub sponge.

5. Dry properly

While it’s good to dry yourself with a towel after showering, overdoing it isn’t a good idea. Understand that drying yourself properly is just as important as washing yourself properly when it comes to avoiding mistakes after or while showering.

The best way is not to use rough towels that leave your body slightly damp.  Don’t forget to apply body lotion after showering to keep skin healthy and hydrated.

Pay close attention to the areas that need special attention. These are:

  • the armpits
  • The feet, especially between the toes
  • The groin area

Do not rub the skin too hard to remove moisture. It is enough to pat yourself dry.

Some recommendations

It is important to know about the most common shower mistakes that many of us make. It’s also important to know what to do for the best possible outcome.

Here are some steps to follow.

Take care of your ears

Both adults and children should not fail to clean the ears inside and out.

  • Clean them properly with soap and water and avoid getting water into the inner ear.

In the case of babies, cleaning should be limited to the outside. You will need some soapy water or you can gently wipe the outside of the ear with a soft, damp baby cloth.
